war mobilizationWeek of Action in California Calls for Reparations and Liberation for African and Colonized Peoples and An End to Imperialist War and Aggression In March, the Uhuru Solidarity Movement held a Week of Action to Stop U.S. Colonial Wars Here and Abroad in the San Francisco Bay Area. Omali Yeshitela – international leader of the Uhuru movement and of the Black is Back Coalition kicked off the week by speaking at the March 20th anti war mobilization at the Civic Center in San Francisco. Most speakers called for imperialist reform – more money for jobs, healthcare and schools, but Chairman Yeshitela called for a stand of solidarity with the people's resistance against imperialism, stating, "We have to move beyond tailing imperialism calling for an end to this war, and an end to that war and an end to the next war. We have to stand on the side of the oppressed. It is not enough to say 'peace.' We have to say 'solidarity with the resisting peoples of the world." Yeshitela's presentation was met enthusiasm and excitement from the crowd of several thousand people. The Uhuru Solidarity Movement led a contingent in the march calling for victory to Iraq, Afghanistan, Africa and Palestine, moving the surrounding crowd with chants of "Solidarity! Not Charity!" and "Reparations! Not Charity!" Several events were held in Oakland and one in Santa Cruz as part of this Week of Action. » Click here to view Chairman Yeshitela's presentation from March 20th. | |||
