Member of the Month: Miah O'Malley ![]() This month we would like to salute Miah O'Malley, who, though she has only been a member of Uhuru Solidarity Movement for 6 months, has taken an incredible stance in solidarity with justice, liberation and reparations for African people! She met the movement through the Uhuru Furniture – Collectibles store in Philadelphia, and brought back literature with her to immediately start trying to organize other North Americans in New York. She played an instrumental role in building the breakthrough New York event for African People's Solidarity Committee Chairwoman Penny Hess's February 2010 Northeast "Africa's Resources in African Hands" tour, organizing cultural performers, volunteers, a fundraising auction and her friends and neighbors to come out to the event! Miah exemplifies the stance of an organizer. She works closely with the Northeast regional organizers in Philadelphia developing her skills in winning other North Americans to stand in solidarity with the Uhuru Movement and the struggle for freedom for all oppressed peoples, and she has countless creative ideas and skills to bring to the table. Miah is an experienced filmmaker, a crafter and developer of her own line of all-natural bodycare products and the original hat/scarf hybrid the "Harf" -- both of which she has sold and auctioned to raise resources for the African Village Survival Initiative programs. If you ask Miah why she's in the movement, she'll say it's because it just makes sense to her. And she has a way of making it just make sense to others. Through that stance and the strength of organization, we're going to build in New York City and throughout the Northeast and beyond! Uhuru! | |||
